  • Global Seafood Association (GSA) has published Best Seafood Practice (BSP) – a standard certified by third party for seafood caught in nature.
  • Such standards will be the only one in the world connecting responsible fishing in nature, fishing boats with RFVS and organizations with SPS certification through the process of supervising Origin.

GIVEN YELLOW CARD, GHANA RISKS LOSING EU MARKET

  • EU has issued another yellow card to Ghana due to Saiko – illegal fishing within its EEZ.
  • Ghana now has to prove changes in management. Or else a Red Card can be issued by the EU, leading to sanction of seafood towards this African country.

In UCN’s latest webinar on global shrimp market outlook for 2021 in May, experts claimed that there would be a shortage on shrimp supply till end of 2021 because:

(1) Covid-19 crisis in India leads to early shrimp harvesting, so big-sized shrimp will be in shortage.

(2) Logistics such as lack of containers.

(3) Tourism in the summer will also result in a soar in seafood demand

CHINA: GUANGDONG SUSPENDS IMPORTS OF FROZEN SEAFOOD FROM INDIA

Guangdong faces the threat of the India coronavirus variant, Chinese authorities decided to limit importing seafood from India and 10 Asian countries (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, etc)

Since last summer, China has found coronavirus in the packages of imported frozen seafood several times, making consumers afraid.
